Indian Gooseberry

Yes, This stuff deserves one individual post. Indian gooseberry also known as Amala and it has been used in Ayurveda as a medicine for thousands of years. According to Ayurveda, it balances all 3 doshas ; "Cough", "Pitta" and "Vat".  It has so many benefits for skin, hair and human  body. Unfortunately I don't get it in United States where I live but it is easily available in India. It has sour, bitter quite bad taste :(( but when you start eating it regularly, you will get used to that taste. It can be used as a fresh fruit, juice, dried from and powder.

Benefits :
1. Rich source of  C vitamin
2. It stimulates hair growth, strengthens hair root and add shine to hair.
3. It has anti-oxidants and also has anti-aging properties.
4. It improves appetite so can be used before meal. You can consume amala juice in the morning.
5. If you have 1/4 cup of amala juice every morning, it reduces chances of constipation.
6. It improves metabolism.
7. High in protein.
8. Controls cholesterol.
9. It purifies blood.

Sometimes I do see fresh gooseberries in Indian stores but if not then the options we have here in States are to get Amala Powder or Concentrate.
I am going to share Amala Sharbat recipe in my next post so stay tune for that, till then stay healthy..:)
